How To Get Rid of Man Boobs - Surgery And Other Ways To Lose Man Boobs
Getting rid of man boobs or gynecomastia by surgery is an option to be considered only if all other options have been exhausted. In some cases, especially for the adolescent, the gynecomastia would disappear as they grow into adulthood. In my previous post, I shared about the different causes that result in man boobs. It is quite clear that obesity is a major contributor to the statistics reported.
If you are obese or know of someone who is significantly overweight and wanting to remove those man boobs, the solution is simple - weight loss. Weight loss can arrest the problem of gynecomastia, and re-contour the breasts into normal shape.
For causes other than obesity, such as medical or health reasons, the man boobs issue sometimes would resolve on its own once the health condition sees improvement. Developing man boobs is a symptom which would wane when healing is complete. Speak with your doctor and find out the reason for your breast enlargement before treating it in a proper manner.
Usage of medications and drugs, be it prescribed or designer, has led to enlargement of the male breasts. Stopping the consumption of these drugs would also have an impact on the recovery from man boobs condition. Candidates for gynemocastia corrective surgery should be healthy and emotionally sound. For the best effects, they should also have firm and elastic skin that can be reshaped. Before one decides on the surgery, it is best to consult the surgeon and ascertain if this is the only option. Sometimes, it may turn out that the man boobs condition can be reversed as mentioned in my earlier paragraphs.
If surgery is the recommendation, you may have to go through a mammogram or breast x-ray to detect any sign of malignance and the breast composition, ie glandular tissue, fat or both. This would assist the surgeon in making the right judgment in the type of surgical approach.
Prior to the surgery, the surgeon would advise you on the necessary preparation for the surgery, such as fasting on food and drinks, taking certain medications, etc. He/she would normally advise smokers to abstain from smoking for a week or two before and after the surgery. This is to aid in the healing process.
The surgery would usually take about an hour and half under the administration of general anesthesia. Depending on the type of breast composition, the surgical procedure may differ. Liposuction would play an important role in removing fat tissues. Glandular tissues are excised using a scalpel through an incision made on the edge of the areola or under the arm. This is to prevent any obvious scarring. Extra skin may be removed to make sure that the breasts can adjust to the new contours.
There would be some discomfort on the chest after the surgery. This is expected but can be properly managed with medications from the surgeon. Bruising would also occur for a while. Your surgeon may advise you to wear an elastic pressure garment for at least one week. You should be able to resume normal activities like returning to work a couple of days after the gynecomastia surgery. The stitches would be removed about 7 – 14 days later. In the meantime, avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activities like sports for a minimum of 1 month. Try not to over-expose your chest to the sun for several months, if possible half a year to prevent the scars from darkening.
In 2-3 months time, your chest area should look the way you desire. The effect of the surgery to get rid of man boobs is complete and permanent.
